Amanda Seyfried and I have something in common. We both swear by a very cheap, very effective product to help calm us down and get to sleep.
This secret weapon has been helping me for months, and I thought I was alone in singing its praises. But Seyfried, a new mom and wife, wants the world to know about its power.
"Lavender oil is supposed to be calming, so I'll dab a tiny bit under my nose before I go to sleep," the 31-year-old told Marie Claire when describing her beauty routine.
And she's not wrong.
I'm a new convert to the power of essential oils, but now you'll never find a purse of mine that doesn't have some type of oil inside it. After a friend recommended them to me when I told her I was having trouble sleeping, I decided to give them a try.
The best part? They're CHEAP. Like, really cheap. A lavender oil, which you can purchase from your local pharmacy or health food store, will only set you back a few dollars.
Medically, lavender oil has been recommended for centuries as a natural remedy for everything from insomnia and nausea to eczema and even as an insect repellant.
Personally, I use it to simply calm myself down—a quick swipe on my wrists and neck does the trick. It's not a cure for my anxiety or insomnia, but it helps. At least, I feel like it does, and sometimes that's the most important thing.
As for Seyfried, she says it's the same effect as the crystals she keeps next to her bed.
"I think all that stuff is magic and can help bring positive energy your way," she says.
Whatever works for you. If it works for Seyfried,we're interested.
