Whenever I see someone with a cable-knit sweater draped over their shoulders, I have the following questions:
- Is that doing anything to keep you warm?
- Who do you think you are?
I've never been able to put my finger on it, but something about this look makes most people who wear it look like pretentious know-it-alls who would "like to speak to the manager".
I know it's wrong to judge someone based on their clothing. But I can't help it. This is just the first image that comes to mind.
But at this year's London Fashion Week, socialite and model Olivia Palermo showed up wearing a very subtle update on this trend. And it made all the difference.
All she did was pull the sweater off to the side. Bam, any trace of pretentiousness: instantly removed.
With the sweater in the traditional position, Palermo's look could have easily been "strict middle school teacher everyone hates". Instead, it says "cool older sister you try to be like but never succeed".
Honestly, how has no one ever thought of this before?
It's such an easy, simple adjustment. And unlike every other lifestyle choice made by Palermo, absolutely free.
