It turns out, like every other in the world, red is an easy one to fake. And these celebrities have been faking it for most of their careers.
Prepare to be very surprised (and also immediately book a hair appointment).
1. Emma Stone
SHE'S BLONDE. IT'S ALL A LIE. When Stone, 28, came onto our screens in 2007's Superbad, she had fiery red hair that we fell in love with. But she's actually a natural blonde.
She's been asked before which color she prefers, and she says red.
“Probably red, even though I’m blonde naturally,” she tells Stylecaster.
“I identify most with red hair. My mom’s a redhead, so maybe I grew up seeing it more than seeing myself in a mirror. But I like blonde, too. It’s just hair.”
Well, you can't argue with that.

2. Cynthia Nixon
Miranda from Sex and the City's red hair was as iconic as Carrie Bradshaw's shoes, but it was fake.
When she went back to her blonde roots after filming, the public was confused.
Marie Claire questioned her on her 'new look' and she confirmed it. "I am not a redhead, I'm a blonde," she says.
"I go red for [Sex and the City], but I go back to my own hair as soon as I possibly can. I like the red very much but it's a lot of work to maintain."
3. Amy Adams
Further proof she is trying to become a clone of Isla Fisher, Adams is naturally blonde and dyes her hair red.
She recently said she feels her career really took off when she became a red head.
“Based on roles that I was getting called in for, people were responding to certain types of characters with me as a blonde," Adams says. "The minute I went red, it was quirky and fun instead of flirtatious and dumb."
“It really changed things up. People began to see me in a different way, for different roles” she told Backstage in 2012.
“I don’t know if I can give credit to just the hair color, but maybe it did help people see me past blonde.”
4. Laura Prepon
The Orange is the New Black star was known as the red-haired Donna in That 70's Show, but it was all a lie. Naturally, she's a brunette.
Producers of That 70's Show asked her to dye her hair for the role.
5. Alyson Hannigan
Well, we didn't see this one coming at all. The How I Met Your Mother star is as synonymous with red hair as red wine is with pasta. Naturally? She's a brunette.
Here she is as a red head.
And here she is as a brunette.

It's hard to tell because she looks so damn good as a red head, but she's naturally a brunette.

7. Christina Hendricks
The red-haired star of Mad Men began dying her blonde hair red at the age of 10.
"I’m naturally a dark blonde," she tells Daily Mail.
"I couldn’t tell you what shade because I haven’t seen it in ages. I started playing with red hair when I was 10 years old. I recognize how odd it is now, but my mom let me do it.
What are your thoughts on Christina Hendricks from Mad Men going blonde?? 😘 pic.twitter.com/zxYq9z3pwH
— Susana Teixeira (@CurlysueSana)
"I was obsessed with Anne Of Green Gables. There was something about her that spoke to me – and I wanted to have her beautiful red hair. My mom said, "Well, let’s throw a rinse on it.'"
So there you have it. Oh, and yes, we still secretly all want to be red heads, too.
