Is it suddenly 1990 again? Because the cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had a mini-reunion and it’s like no time has passed at all.
Alfonso Ribeiro, who played nerdy Tom Jones super fan Carlton Banks on NBC's six-season comedy, recently shared a snapshot of himself with cast members Will Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Joseph Marcell on Instagram and the nostalgia is almost too much to handle.
"Always amazing to spend an afternoon with my Fresh Prince family. Wishing that James Avery was still with us to make this complete," he wrote, acknowledging the notable absence of Avery, who played Banks family patriarch Uncle Phil. Avery passed away from complications from an open heart surgery in 2014.
While it's hard not to imagine the cast immediately sitting down to plan a reunion special after this picture was taken, Fresh Prince fans shouldn't get their hopes up about a return to the small screen anytime soon.
The loss of Avery plays a huge role in their decision not to revamp the series.
"I don't think we feel as a cast that we would do even our fans justice," Ribeiro told E! in 2014. "We all felt like he was the centerpiece or the nucleus of that show. Without him, it just doesn't work."
Smith echoed his costar's thoughts a year later. "I don't think ever, like pretty close to when hell freezes over," he said. "Like we're going to leave that one alone."
At least we have the endless reruns to remind us of better days.
